Moulds for Abrasive Tools

Design and production of ceramic abrasive moulding and casting moulds for diamond resinoids

Design and production of steel and plastic moulds for pressing, casting and firing of abrasive tools.

When polishing and lapping natural stone and ceramics, two different types of tools are used: ceramic abrasives and diamond resinoids.

Polishing abrasive tools, (e.g. Frankfurt 5 extra, Cassani, rib polisher, Munchen....), are mainly used for mirror polishing of natural stone with manual machines. To produce the polishing abrasive tools, hydraulic presses are used with various automated applications for loading, unloading, weighing, on which large, complex moulds are mounted where the compaction phase of the abrasive material mixture takes place.

Since the early 1980s, we have been designing and building multi-cavity moulds for the production of abrasive polishing tools, in which we use our own technical solutions and steels, fine-tuned over the years, which allow us to guarantee our customers the supply of a reliable, high-performance and safe product.

Diamond resin tools are mainly used for mirror polishing of natural stone and ceramics with automatic machines. To produce diamond resin tools, multi-impression moulds are used, made of steel or aluminium, into which the resinoid substance is cast in a liquid state before drying.

For the construction of casting moulds for diamond resinoids, it is necessary to use materials (aluminium alloys, steel, ertalon) of the best quality, because they counteract the aggressiveness of the diamond and allow a higher number of casting cycles. In order to prevent the diamond tool from detaching with difficulty during the extraction phase, it is necessary for the machining of the mould surfaces to be carried out, on machining centres, with superfinishing CAD/CAM programmes.
